127. All who realize consciously the community move forward. We have seen enough cosmic refuse and We are not disposed to be part of it. 128. Sharp-sightedness grows only thru perils. 129. One cannot view without contempt the selling of the Teaching in the bazaar at a discount. It is easy to degrade oneself to no avail. The forcibly enticed one is a millstone on the neck of the bellringer. So, ring the bell at the right time, avoid coercion. 130. Who should be treated especially austerely? Definitely oneself. How carry the Teaching? Within oneself alone. How pass between hypocrisy and insolence? Only in self-awareness, knowing dignity and appraising the pearl of one's consciousness, which in turn appraises the vital Teaching. One must know how to carry the Teaching as the last fire, food, water--to which one manifests love and sparingness. One must know how to create a world of personal responsibility for one's own consciousness. 131. Casual predetermination of radiations causes a mixed reading of rays and paralyzes the will. The infirmity of many workers derives from frequency-mixtures instead of energy harmonizations and clarity. First of all, expel all ignorance and without bombast simply know more. 132. Verbosity loses resourcefulness and flexibility. Boredom can undo community. Resourcefulness and flexibility alone preserve the freshness of freedom's tree. 133. Community has two conscious prerequisites for entrance: ongoing labor and acceptance of tasks without rejection. It is possible to eliminate faint-heartedness by means of a twofold organization. Many people, not bad otherwise, are frightened by incessant labor and enormous tasks, yet they have basically accepted the idea of the community. It would be harmful to include these yet weak people in the community, but in order not to extinguish their striving, one should not cast them out. It is useful to have a second circle then, friends of the community, thereby newcomes can become more deeply conscious of the community. Such organization permits the preservation of a far more concentrated sincerity in the work. Otherwise, one obtains an institution under false name, a Pharisee Sanhedrin. Friends of the community do not conceal their weaknesses, this gives the potential of righting them. Our communities are old! Have not the best people understood community, not proposing other form? From community to higher realms! 134. Sincerity, lacking doubt, is similar to a properly directed spear-thrust and not a diffused goodness. For Us it is the swiftest and surest attainment. Pity is otherwise, where one descends to the level of the pitied. Compassion does not weep but helps. It is possible to divert attention from oneself, but this is far more difficult than to attract; it is necessary to understand the impulse of the observers. Let not your striving turn into a chase, lest idlers and guards rush after you. Realize the burden of missions. 135. When something can be simplified and adorned, verily it is one's duty to do so. One must comprehend the significance of the current. As an unfailing spiral fed by the manifest forces does the eternal current rush along. Thought can overtake the light. Bring the realization of the great current to your workbench and give wings to your labor. Saturation with potentiality's tremor gives rhythm to work. Thought pierces the atmosphere and weaves the web. Quality thinking is formed in solitude thru rational striving. 136. We avoid external commands, preferring to guide the will in order that one realize the need of action. As, one who draws water--as he realizes the need to do so, more than half the difficulty is over. Without cooperation a command is like the arrowflight against the wind. Know to evoke cooperation in thought also. 137. Strive to the guiding thought of helping mankind, of absolute utility, of working for unity of worlds--preserve this. As seed filled with the great substance of life is gathered with an ordinary sickle, so amid ordinary matters look for the unifying thread. 138. One should not harass enemies with direct proposals. Personal aspiration to world tasks can attain such tension that inevitably the enemy is drawn in the same direction. We must not forget that the enemy by his enmity is already connected to us--in this bond lies his weakness. With a picture of us as his target he chains his consciousness to us and oft becomes a simple imitator. When his hatred has led him to imitation, the cosmic grandeur of purpose may induce him further. When one knows that the enemy is attached, one may look upon him as a foolish member of the household. 139. Ignorance is the mother of negation. Expelling negation, the Teaching enslaves none. The Teaching of the Community must be active in the opening of all paths. 141. One is more likely to convince by a silent gesture than by cold rhetoric. Which of the old worn-out prejudices to mourn? The whole trunkful of insects must be burnt for renovation. 143. One may proceed either by the difficult way or by cooperation--the evolutionary direction is immutable. 144. When indolent consciousness considers community to be harmful nonsense, this disintegrating force is dangerous. Attackers must be indignantly excluded from the community--even smallest contact with these is harmful. 145. One should study the quality of the atmosphere and the quality of action. Actions may become nonsensical and the atmosphere may overflow with waves of differing length. Thus one may guard against madness. 147. He is heroic who acts self-sacrificingly, unwaveringly, consciously, and in the name of the common good brings nearer the current of cosmic evolution. The sword is the staff of the hero. Aspire! 149. Remember, not only the leap but the retention of new ground. If a victory of consciousness be not consolidated, then instead of an even light the consciousness fills with sharp painful sparks. 151. The knowledge of swaying the crowd lies in understanding the nodes of the crowd and in the timely sending thither of lightbearing thought. The kindled nodes of a group become resonators. How discover the most efficient and resounding nodes? Between speaker and group fly spheres of light if he is a leader of the common good--in purple waves engendering potential. A babbler's radiation is furrowed with zigzags. 152. Riddance of delay is accomplished by precision work and vigilance. The leaps of bloated rabbits are ineffective. For the character of the striving one does not permit the ship to be icebound. 153. One cannot trust an isolated spark of a person's co-measurement, only steadfastness, tempered by toil and obstacles, results in trustworthy containment. 154. One thing must be repeated: not easy is the ladder. Real danger is conquered with the help of complete knowledge. I do not conceal how far the stones must be carried nor how great is the aridity. Precisely the countlessness of the stars gives affirmation to the fiery steps. 155. Those who fear intense labor are afraid of the forms and laws of energy. Let them proceed formlessly toward the decomposing moons. 156. Rarely in the cities does the messenger of Community meet with welcome, the very soul of the city growls at him. The citydweller is not adverse to squeezing out useful information, though it be from the Community. Give money, give advice for the morrow, do away with the enemy--then vanish quickly and do not disturb our digestion with thoughts of world fellowship. We summon those who know the difficulties. We call to those who will not turn back. We summon those whose joy is essential wisdom. 157. In the denier sits not only ignorance but also a base fear. Children may understand that the egoist first admits nothing, whereas the striver for common good sets as first task absorption of potential. The citydweller is so accustomed to considering himself something dense and dark that he does not admit that he could prove to be a source of physical light. Yet children are not surprised if an electric spark emanates from them. Allow children opportunity to muse!
